We just wanted to say how much all four of us enjoyed our stay at Akoonah Studio at the weekend. The Studio was lovely and had everything we needed whilst being uncluttered and spacious. We loved the location, it was so peaceful and relaxing, and only a short drive to the beach. Our girls Jess and Juicy loved chilling out on the deck and had a great time at all the local dog beaches. We will definitely be back.

Heading toward Akoonah, along the scenic drive, gives you an idea of how beautiful the countryside is in Coorabell, with the added bonus of the view out toward Byron Bay and the ocean. Arriving at the property, I was pleasantly surprised to realise it was even better than it looked and sounded online - which isn't often the case although the online reviews had been quite rightly glowing. Cathy and Leonard are lovely genuine people and so welcoming and truly dog friendly .. you instantly feel at peace and at home in the lovely well equipped and private studio. You can do as much or as little as you like while staying there - a short drive to the dog friendly beaches, towns and villages, country scenic drives or walks, or reading/sleeping in the hammock on the deck surrounded by nature. Akoonah really is a special peaceful place in a beautiful part of northern NSW. Loved my week there and look forward to our next visit !

Thanks for the beautiful stay! You made two pooches very happy! And the sounds of all the frogs at night was enchanting.

We have been visiting Akoonah with our dogs once or twice a year for the last 6 years and really love the stress-free break from the hustle and bustle of city life it gives us. We have stayed at both Akoonah Cottage & the Studio, each with unique qualities and both equally comfortable to stay in. Some days we enjoy chilling out on the deck with our books listening to the birds in the rainforest below, cooking our own meals on the BBQ at night and settling in to stargaze with a few drinks. Other days we would take a short drive down to Byron to watch the sunset on the beach with fresh fish n' chips. One of our dogs Roxie was a pup when she first started visiting Akoonah with us and it still remains her favourite spot to explore and meet new four legged friends. Thank you Cathy and Leonard for providing such a friendly and relaxing place in a little slice of paradise.

We had a truly wonderful time and enjoyed every minute - it's a great slice of paradise you have and we look forward to coming back sometime soon!

We love coming down to stay at Cathy's. There are always treats for us and we get to run around in a rainforest then curl up at night and get to do it all again the next day.

I have been holidaying at Akoonah Cottages for 4 years now. The peacefulness and being at one with nature, with my dogs, is just pure bliss.

We love staying at the Akoonah cottage so much that we have had our annual holiday there for the past 5 years. At first we went for 2 weeks, now we spend an entire month there. Akoonah is in tranquil rainforest and very close to beaches. It's very pet friendly - we have 3 dogs who love being there as much as we do.

Former working dog Gem loving her holiday at Akoonah Cottage! She loves that hammock and had as great a time as we did!

Our stay at Akoonah Cottage in Byron Bay was just what we needed. Waking up to the birds, having a coffee on the deck over looking the lush rainforest block from the comfort of a well placed hammock was bliss. A perfect place to take our beloved fur-kids with the fantastic facilities being pup-friendly (including the treats on arrival), and one of Australia's most beautiful dog friendly beaches a short drive down a scenic road. We will recommend to anyone travelling with dogs - heck - anyone travelling to the Byron Bay area wanting some rainforest rest! Thanks again!

Fantastic & beautiful place to stay at and great value for money and dog friendly. The cottage had everything we needed, and was ideally located in 10 minutes from Byron Bay. We had a great relaxing time, thank you.
We travel to Byron frequently for work and it's great we can take the dogs and not have to stress. The hosts are great and Akoonah has all the comforts of home. Dogs love it and it's only 10 minutes from the dog beach,

We had a fantastic weekend at Akoonah Cottages - it was refreshing to find pet friendly accommodation that did not cost the earth just because we had a dog. We were all made to feel welcome and Captain thought it was the best place on earth - for a change there were welcome treats for him too. The cottages were bright and cheerful, excellent value for money. I have recommended it to many people who love their dogs as much as we do and like to holiday with them - we will definitely be going back.
Relaxed, friendly, well-equipped, reasonably priced - an excellent choice for a stay that's better than home (which is what we want when travelling). Highly recommended - 5 stars - Cathy & Leonard will take care of you.
We really enjoyed our stay. We all felt welcome, including our busy young dog and baby. The house was very comfortable, and well set up. The location of the house and the surrounding country was beautiful. I will certainly be recommending this place to my friends, and will be returning.
We found the atmosphere to be extremely relaxing and a real sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of busy Byron Bay! On arrival our hosts made us feel immediately welcome. The studio had quality furnishings and an extra nice touch was the dog biscuits awaiting Spike, our Border Collie! We were grateful we could leave the dog in a secure environment if we went out without him.
Our stay was exactly what we needed. We could only take the weekend off work as we were between jobs, moving and building a house so we were after a quick respite! Unfortunately, we didn't stay as long as we would have loved to at Akoonah Cottage, but we hope to head back as soon as possible and relive the surreal experience. Our little puppies thoroughly enjoyed the cottage stay and stayed up late at night watching movies and snacking on the welcome dog biscuits we received on arrival!
The cottage was ideal. Pets are totally accepted complete with doggie biscuits. It was peaceful and quiet, yet close enough to Bangalow, Byron & Lennox Heads not to be too out of the way. Overall we could not have asked for more. A great little information pack in the cottage gave us all we needed to find great places to visit and even better places to eat.
Just a note to tell you how much we enjoyed our stay at Akoonah Cottage. We found your place warm and welcoming. We are well seasoned travelers, and have several favourite homes away from home. After 5 minutes at the cottage it was like being at one of them - as if we had been going there for years. Love the design. Lots of air and light is very appealing to us. And it is always a bonus to find somewhere that is truly pet friendly rather than barely pet tolerant. Great to meet you, and hope to see you again in the not too distant future. Many thanks. All the best.
Thank you immensely for a wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable stay at Akoonah Cottage! The cottage and the surrounds were beautiful. It truly was a home away from home. Beedee our dog really loved his first get away. Our stay was perfect in every respect!

Mischka.... After a long day of travelling, "my own bed"..... bring me my Catini please (shaken, not stirred), followed by a tummy and back rub....puurrrrr. Mischka visited Abbiente with her own staff - Julie Ann, Charlie and dog Zooki all of whom loved it.
When Lulu and I decided to escape another Melbourne winter we were thrilled to find the pet friendly Akoonah cottage and booked to stay for two weeks. Two months later we were still there! Lulu came to life in this beautiful environment, falling in love with the freedom of running around in nature, sunning herself on the beaches and having endless dips in the ocean. And she had plenty of company too, although I think she preferred Cathy and Leonard to their dogs! I expected to spend most of our time in Byron Bay, but being just minutes from such treasures as Bangalow and Mullumbimby and with access to the pristine northern beaches, we were spoilt for choice. And there’s no shortage of local markets either. We loved our visit. Never have we been made to feel so welcome. We have found our home away from home.
